Documenting a Forum

Okay, so the forum I chose is a webcomic called Housepets!

It’s just a small, lighthearted anthro comic that updates on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays. It even has a forum so the fans/members can discuss about comic or other stuff in there.

The forum itself looks simple enough to follow. It has the taskbar on the somewhat-top, the login section on the top-right corner and the sections in the middle.

Now…to register! I’ve already have an account here though but I might as well show you how it goes then. First, it’s the Terms & Regulations! You MUST agree on it to make an account or else, you’ll just be sent back to the previous page.

Once you agreed to it, you’ll be asked to fill out certain information, like your on-screen name or username, your e-mail address, your password to that account then your language and timezone. (There are some forums that also asks you to type down what words the image show. It usually shows just plain text but some shows with text and numbers. Filling it incorrect leads to retrying until you type is right.)

I didn’t show the rest but it will say that you have successfully created an account and a verification letter will be sent to your e-mail! You’ll need to go to your e-mail and open that letter. There should be a link for you to click in it to successfully verify your account.

Once that is done, you can now login at the forums! Once you logged in, you’ll notice a number of changes. Like the additional options on the taskbar and the red text. Those red text basically mean you have not read that section yet.

So…once that is done, it’s time to see how the people are! I’ve already made a “Hi, I’m new here” post so I guess I’ll start with an entirely new topic. Before that happens, I have to choose the “Not the comic” section for self-explanatory reasons.

So I started out making the topic! There are a lot of stuff you can deal with, like the front colour and adding hyperlinks to it. I haven’t use any of them since I didn’t think they were useful for my topic.

Once that is done, your topic is made! Now to just wait for people to comment on it…

On the outside, it should look like this;

Here is what happened for the next few minutes… It had 1 reply and 10 views.

The next few hours/minutes; It had 8 replies and 52 views!

So now…to see what the people have said! The first reply was a rather long and detailed post. |D

As for the rest, here is what it shows.

The rest is this;

That’s all the progress I have made for now. Sadly, the topic sort of idled after the last post and no one added or commented on anything.

I’ll post more once I’ve made progress!
